Stevie Nicks' Trouble In Shangri-La
The spring of 2001 witnessed the
long awaited release of a new CD by Stevie Nicks, one
of the most influential female singer/songwriters of the
rock genre. Stevie Nicks career spans over three decades
and includes bands such as The Buckingham-Nicks, Fleetwood
Mac, and at least five solo albums. After a long lay off,
Stevie has conquered several 'personal situations' and
returned to the music world.
The new CD Trouble in Shangri-La does not
really break any new musical ground. The music and movement
of the lyrics are definitely Stevie's style. Stevie's
lyrics have always taken one into another world, and she
is able to do this once again on this CD. Songs such as
the title track Trouble in Shangri-La, and other
songs like Sorcerer, Planets of the Universe, and
Bombay Sapphires, transport the listener to a world
far away. Other great songs on the CD include Too far
from Texas, Love Is, Candlebright, Every Day, and
Fall from Grace. Planets of the Universe has been
released as a CD single.
Trouble in Shangri-La includes several guest
appearances by Sheryl Crow, Macy Gray, Natalie Maines
(a Dixie Chick) and Sarah McLachlan. It was produced,
at least in part, by Sheryl Crow.
Trouble in Shangri-La may not be the best
CD by Stevie Nicks, but it is a good solid CD. It may
not break new ground but it is good to have Stevie back.
I have missed her.
What is he doing now? Christopher Cross (of Ride
Like the Wind fame) is still making CDs. His latest
CD, Red Room, released in 2000, is the studio
CD of a two CD set released in 1998. The 1998 CD, entitled
Walking in Avalon, also contained a very
good live CD and is definitely the better buy. The studio
CD contains some great new songs including Walking
in Avalon, Red Room, When She Smiles, and Rainy Day in
Vancouver. The live CD includes Christopher Cross'
hits like Ride Like the Wind, Sailing, Alibi, and Swept
Away. Christopher Cross is still around and making
music. Give his new stuff a listen-you may like it.
