NEW DOG WALK PLANNED IN ST MARYS, GA
The
other day my master took me for a ride down to the Quick-Stop
for a hotdog. I was really astounded and pleased to see
that the city was planning a two-mile long doggie walk
on North River Causeway between the North River Bridge
and Point Peter Road. While there are no signs that announce
the doggie walk, the first phase has been completed. The
city has already installed almost 50 fire hydrants along
the proposed path of the walk, and I'm sure a nice wide
sidewalk is soon to follow. To add to the beauty of the
walk, the city has even painted all the dirt and grass
along the causeway green.
The
doggie walk will take doggies and doggie walkers past
the nice fishing pond off the causeway. My master says
that he often goes there to fish and sees a few people
fishing there every now and then. With the fire hydrants
there, if the fishing pond or even the marsh ever catches
on fire, the fire department can easily put it out. My
master even said that one day he would not be surprised
if the city put in an alligator petting zoo near the pond.
That's just like the city, helping animals and allowing
children to enjoy nature up close.
The
new walk will also take the doggies and masters past several
out of the way scenic places like the police gun range,
the sewage treatment plant, and the old city dump. While
these places may seem fraught with danger for doggies
and masters walking their doggies may wish to wear a flack
jacket or a gas mask, the doggie path is clearly marked
because all of the fire hydrants are bright yellow. The
path will be easy to follow. Any doggie walking on the
new doggie walk will feel just like Toto in The Wizard
of Oz.
Finally,
I expect the new doggie walk to improve business at the
Quick-Stop and restaurant at the corner. Now people will
come in and buy water, snacks, hot dogs, and all sorts
of chips and stuff to eat while walking. This may just
end the recession caused by 9/11, the base closings around
the country, and the paper mill shutting down. It should
help the fire hydrant and concrete industry too.
I'll
see ya at the doggie walk.
