LOCAL BAKERS COOK UP DOGGIE TREATS

A trio of local ladies and their trusty doggies (there are seven, can you tell they love their dogs) are now baking up tasty dog biscuits right here in Camden County, Ga. Sam, the Clarion Issue research editor, did his job and found these treats during the big Fourth of July celebration in downtown St. Marys, and believe me, they are Cluny and Col. Bud approved.

The treats are made from all natural ingredients including peanut butter, tuna, oatmeal, cheeses, milk, rice and veggies and are taste tested by all seven dogs and even some family members. I passed a few over to my Saluki neighbor, Fatwah al-Jihad and his four wives, and now he has to buy each wife a box for their birthday and anniversary, plus a box each for St. Valentines Day. When these things catch on, these broads and their dogs are gonna be rich.

These ladies take pride in their products by naming their dog's favorites after their pets. They have Blackjack, a mixed breed rescued from the lonely streets of Guam, his favorite is Blackjack's Tuna Treats. George Edward, a poodle-Maltese mix, a rescue dog from the Kingsland Humane Society, prefers George's Fancy Delectables. Zeke, a lab mix who was saved at the cost of a pack of cigarettes and $25, enjoys the Zeke's Keep It Simple Biscuit. Beau, a lab, was a gift of love, and he recommends Beau's Oatmeal Snacks. Pappy, a Great Dane rescue doggie, devours Pappy's Pupcakes. Ruby, their dearly departed Great Dane, was always busy chasing her favorite, Ruby's Peanut Butter Rabbits, before she died. George William, a bassett found under a broken-down lawnmower and covered with ticks, considers himself the big cheese around their digs when eating George's Snacks filled with cheddar cheese. And last but not least, Star, a rescue dog all the way from Iowa, loves her Paws-ativly Star's Favorites made with bacon and cheddar cheese. These broads can also do specialty items such as Pitbull Biscotti (not only for Pitbulls), Sugar's Pumpkin Bread (great anytime of the year) and Bassett Bundt Cake (great for birthday parties).

When meeting the Three Broads you will embrace the southernese style of Miss Kathy Potts, born in the Panama Canal Zone and raised in North Carolina for most of her life. She found her way to St. Marys courtesy of Hurricane Katrina with two of her dogs leading the way. Miss Karen Kellerson, a native Floridian and a Navy wife, brought her baby Blackjack home to St. Marys from Guam. Nini Tamra Walker's dogs wanted to go for a drive, when the car ended up in St. Marys, they knew they were in the right place. These three talented broads all met while working in a people bakery together. They decided their passion for baking and love for their pets should prevail, and "Three Broads and A Dog" was born.

You can place your order from these broads on the web at their web site www.3broadsandadog.com, and their email is treats@3broadsandadog.com. Those without computer access can contact them by phone at 729-7752 and 674-6945. Their biscuits are also for sale throughout select stores in St. Marys and coming soon to stores in Kingsland.

See ya at the next taste test, Cluny!
